Whelk-O 1

p-Electron Acceptor/Donor Phases
The Whelk-O 1 CSP, designed specifically for the separation of underivatized non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), is the newest addition to the Regis series of Pirkle-Concept CSPs. This p-electron acceptor/donor phase exhibits an extraordinary degree of generality, easily resolving a number of underivatized racemates including carboxylic acids, alcohols, epoxides, and sulfoxides.

The degree of generality observed with the Whelk-O 1 CSP has compared favorably with polysaccharide-derived CSPs. Due to the covalent nature of the Whelk-O 1, it is compatible with all commonly used mobile phases, including aqueous systems-a distinct advantage over polysaccharide-derived CSPs. Other advantages include long column life, durability, and the availability of both enantiomeric forms, for the convenient control of elution order.

Many racemates exhibit superb resolutions in either the normal-phase or reversed-phase modes, although superior resolution is typically observed with normal-phase eluents.
